Honolulu Psychologists Providing Helath PsychgologyIt's funny how often we overlook the amazingly powerful connection between our bodies and our minds. We say it like a hyphenated last name of two people coming together in the union of marriage, "Mind-Body connection"... when in reality, our mind is literally part of our bodies, and our bodies can not function on any level without being fundamentally connected with our mind. They're not even separate entities really if you stop and think about it. That's like saying, "The Eye-Body connection" or the "Thyroid-Body connection". We've been taught to think of these as two separate entities, working together, not one. And somehow, the awareness of realizing the two have a deep relationship seems like an epiphany. And yet, we know that literally, the body can not survive without the mind, and the mind can not survive without the body. They are infinitely connected and one in more ways than any married couple will ever be, no matter how much they love each other or how well they know about each other's quirks and preferences. We struggle to realize how much what we are carrying in our hearts, and what we think and believe to be true, invariably shows up somehow in our bodies and is represented in how we take care of ourselves. This does not mean that every ailment we have as humans was manifested by the brain, but it does mean that learning to understand what we are carrying in our minds is essential to understanding how our bodies are reacting to our internal states. And that does not just include current levels of stress, it goes well beyond into our core beliefs about ourselves, how we have learned to treat our physical bodies, how lovable we think we are, and so many other deeper layers that tie into who we are that we don't really think about. At GoVa Counseling, we recognize that for so many of us, emotional pain is often rooted in past traumas we've experienced. Often, those traumas are not the "Big T" traumas we think about... they're hidden in the little injuries we don't even realize we are carrying from childhood or days long ago.At GoVa Counseling, our caring team of psychologists are trained to help you discover the roots to mental health issues that may be causing you chronic health issues or physical ailments that seem to have come out of nowhere, and leave you feeling lost and powerless, which can lead to believing we're merely victims of our bodies, and left with nothing to do but just cope. But our therapists know that understanding this relationship can be a game-changer for many people, and at a minimum may have very helpful insights into the ways we are coping with debilitating health issues that we can not physically mend, but can overcome mentally. At GoVa Counseling our therapists understand that, as humans, when we experience "trauma" ("big T" or "little t"), our minds develop narratives and coping mechanisms that can sometimes lead to patterns that perpetuate our pain, and create barriers for us to live full and healthy lives. For all of us, feeling helpless in the face of these issues is all too common. Many of us navigate life with a sense of frustration and despair, believing that our health is out of our control. But here's the empowering truth: by understanding the connection between our minds and bodies, we can begin to reclaim our well-being. Learning to listen to our bodies and recognizing the signals they send us can help us pay attention to how our emotional states affect our physical health, and with this knowledge we can start to make changes that lead to better health and communication with our entire mind-body complex. At GoVa Counseling, our therapists believe in the importance of this mind-body connection and we're here to support you in exploring how past experiences and subconscious beliefs have shaped your perceptions and impacted your health. By working with one of our psychologists, you can learn techniques to manage stress, reframe negative thought patterns, and develop a healthier relationship internally, that will also reflect externally.Imagine feeling empowered to take charge of your health, equipped with the tools to address both emotional and physical challenges. The best part is that you don't have to navigate this journey alone. We are here to help you, so you can live a life that feels whole and vibrant, no matter your circumstances. We can guide you to a place of strength, resilience, and a renewed sense of health. So give us a call today and the next thing you know you'll be on your way to having a much more fulfilling relationship with your mind and body, all parts of you, inside and out!©Copyright 2025.
